Hi all, it’s been quite a while (assuming there are still people who read this!).
I thought the article below was worth sharing, like others I am trying to get my head around what an artificial intelligence future will look like. Given the realities of the social media era we live in that elevates thought towards the lowest common denominator and the commercialisation of hate by the tech bros, I am not that optimistic! Still, likely be able to get it to do some useful chores….

Generally speaking, AI has been around for decades, you probably just didn’t realize it. The current Large Language Models do some nice things, but are in reality not much more than a hyped auto complete (what you know from your favourite search engine). Also the technology didn’t really change over the last decades, but now you have tons of data and computer power to run those (rather lousy) models. To put things in perspective: there are AI models that can play Donkey Kong like a charm and there are models that can play Pac-Man. Just don’t make the mistake to put the wrong model in front of the arcade or you will mess up things good and proper. A human doesn’t have this limitation.

On AI hype, did ride the wave a bit last year, even managed to briefly breath life into some moribund telecom plays which I took advantage of! By late last year every stock AI related was hockey stick up!! All very dot com, still trying to figure it out. As you say keep reading….love the line on your link “Dumbasses are eternal. But chatbots encourage them and make them worse”. Sign of the times!
